First, a brief explanation of why part one, and when the second and next will be. As I've written before I really like birdwatching and all that goes with it, so this is by no means the last post with bird photos on my website.

Birdwatching, or ornithology, is the observation of birds, either as a leisure activity or as a form of citizen science. A birdwatcher may observe with the naked eye, with a vision enhancement device such as binoculars or a telescope, by listening to bird sounds or by observing public webcams (Or photographing - author's note)

Well, references and stories are fine, but let's move on to bird photos.

The kingfisher. The pearl of today's trek through the woods. Spotted (barely) in the depths of the bushes on the lake shore. 400mm focal length was clearly not enough here, so this is also a cropped shot, to get a little bit closer and see the details.

A grey heron in flight. Lucky catch, one of the 15 shots even came into focus and there's no shame in showing it off. By the way, it is also featured in the title photo of the article.

There are quite a lot of them in this forest, so you will see them in photos quite often. Quite a photogenic bird, though permanently asleep (just kidding).

Cormorant on take-off. I was already on the lookout for paddled thoughtfully across the lake into the distance first and then went for take-off, this one as he  spreading his wings fluttering. Along the way, scaring half the ducks off as he was starting up.

So here we are, next weekend I hope to take another walk along the shore, and this time I know the secret place to get to by ferry. Today didn't get the chance, as it was already getting dark and there was every chance the ferry would stop running.
